It's getting hot in here! How in the Nine Hells do I brew my loose leaf on ice?? - Tea For The Underground

Great news! It turns out there are plenty of ways to enjoy our premium loose leaf teas on ice. Here are my top three go-to methods for producing flavorful, refreshing iced teas:

Brewing as normal and letting the tea cool

This is the simplest method of brewing iced tea, just brew the tea as normal and let it come to room temperature, pour over ice and viola, iced tea. While not my favorite of the three methods described, it's definitely better than nothing! Due to the oxidation that occurs you will find that the body will be drier and slightly astringent.

Cold Brewing

Add about 2 tablespoons of loose leaf tea for every 400ml of cold water into an airtight pitcher or jar. Pop it into the fridge for about 12-14 HOURS (that’s right, this method requires you to plan ahead), strain the leaves and enjoy! The body of your tea will be soft, smooth and full bodied. As far as taste, you will notice a much brighter, more complex flavor profile than the previous method. This method works great for producing larger batches of tea ahead of time. Perfect for a fun filled day of lawn darts and hunting earthworms!

Flash Chilled

Our favorite method and also the easiest to play around with. Add 2 Teaspoons of loose leaf tea into your teapot or brewing vessel of choice, add about 250ml, in other words about half of the normal amount that would be used for hot tea, let steep for 2-3 minutes. Add approximately 10-15 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker and pour the hot tea on top, shake vigorously until you feel the tea get cold, pour into glass and enjoy. You can also use a pitcher for the ice and just give it a good, quick stir. This method is great if you want to impress your friends but don't have a big twirly mustache and suspenders.
