Sencha Kagoshima

Unit price  per

Sencha Kagoshima is thought by many in the tea world to be one of the truest expressions of Japanese tea. The most popular and widely-produced tea in Japan, sencha comes from the delicate young leaves of the tea plant, harvested earlier in the year than lower-grade bancha. This sencha comes from the island of Kyushu in the very south of Japan. The subtropical climate is ideal for tea cultivation, and Kagoshima Prefecture alone produces about 20% of Japan’s total tea output.

Proximity to the ocean gives Japanese green teas a unique aroma, somehow suggestive of both fresh grass and seaweed. Steep for 3-5 minutes for the distinctive golden-green hue of a traditional sencha. Deep and grassy with a dry bite in the first steep, mellowing to woody and savory in later pours.

Origin: Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan

Process: Non-fermented, traditionally steamed, pan-dried, and polished

Caffeine Content: Low
